Sustainability & Environmental Impact

The intention behind creating The Woollen Shroud Company was to offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative choice when it came to dressing the body of a loved one for their final farewells.

Working with sheep’s fleece has been a long time passion and all our shrouds naturally descend from this amazingly biodegradable product.

As we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, we continually look at what we do and how we do it then try to improve our sustainability and environmental impact within our online business.  Membership of the Association of Green Funeral Directors has helped focus our aims and the key areas of our strategy involves -

Transport - we deliver products using our VW ID.Buzz Electric van.

Reducing water wastage - our fleece is washed in collected rainwater using a traditional SUIT method with no bleach or chemicals. The brown waste water is used on the allotment.

Use of sustainable energy - studio lighting uses energy efficient light bulbs and usage is monitored by smart meter.

Sustainable supplies and procurement - our packaging is biodegradable and can be recycled.  It is also suitable for returns should these be required.  Printing is kept to a minimum and any paper used in this way is printed on both sides. No plastics or cellophane is used in our products or distribution.

The management of wasteoff cuts of our woollen fabrics are used for stuffing (small pieces) and larger scraps are redesigned into mobile device covers, glasses cases and shoe insoles.
