FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
CAN YOU BE CREMATED IN A SHROUD?
Absolutely. Check with your FD or crematorium if not using a traditional coffin as a ‘shove board’ may be needed.
MUST YOU HAVE A COFFIN?
No, it is not a legal requirement to use a coffin in the UK. Check with the Cemetery provider what style of carrier they will accept.
CAN YOU SEE BODY DETAILS THROUGH THE SHROUD?
No direct features are visible. The thickness of the shroud construction ensures modesty and a smoother outline.
HOW DO YOU USE A SHROUD?
The body is wrapped and completely covered with separate head and foot pockets thereby ensuring it is securely enveloped. Instructions for use are included and any questions may be answered using our contact information.
CAN YOU VIEW A BODY IN THEIR SHROUD?
Yes, the shroud may be folded open for viewing during final farewells. A small pillow to support the head is available.
IS UNDERWEAR REQUIRED WITH A SHROUD?
Underwear is a personal choice and is not needed to preserve modesty.
I AM PLANNING MY OWN FUNERAL. CAN I BUY MY SHROUD NOW AND KEEP IT FOR LATER?
A shroud can be stored for years if you are planning ahead. You may choose to leave it in the box or place it in a cotton cover. It should be kept in a dark area such as a cupboard - opening it out for an airing each year is advisable.
